Concept was appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver a new office depot at Pavor Road, Torquay, for National Grid. The building uses a steel frame, which gave the programme more certainty and allowed internal works to begin as soon as the structure was weather-tight.
The internal works formed the main body of our scope. We carried out the full mechanical and electrical installation for the building, covering lighting, power, heating and ventilation throughout. We then delivered the complete fit-out across all areas of the depot, including open-plan office space, meeting rooms, kitchen facilities, changing rooms with lockers and benching, accessible WC and washroom facilities, and a platform lift. All areas were decorated and finished to a standard ready for National Grid’s operational teams.

With the building envelope complete, Concept took on the coordination of all internal trades, running the M&E installation alongside the fit-out works across the building. This required careful sequencing to keep each area moving and avoid delays between packages.
The fit-out covered a range of different space types, from open-plan offices and boardrooms to welfare, changing and accessible facilities. Concept managed the quality and programme across all of these, working closely with National Grid and the wider project team to deliver a building that was ready to use on handover.
