Concept completed enabling works to support the removal of an existing LINAC machine and the installation of a new unit within St Bartholomew’s Hospital. We installed temporary partitions to segregate the work area and protect adjacent clinical spaces. We protected existing flooring within the control room and removed floor finishes within the exam room to allow access for equipment works.
We removed lighting fittings above the equipment for reuse and partially removed the suspended ceiling to allow the Varian unit to be removed and reinstalled. Concept isolated chilled water services and exposed floor trunking to enable alterations. We isolated and removed the existing mains panel as part of the preparatory works. We completed builders’ work, including floor chasing for equipment containment and alterations to partitions to suit the new mains panel. Concept installed a free issue optical imager and an IRM mounting post to the existing ceiling.

The primary challenge involved working within a live healthcare setting where access, safety, and continuity of adjacent services were critical. We managed segregation, protection, and sequencing to control risk and maintain hospital operations throughout the programme.
Concept coordinated mechanical and electrical activities to align with equipment installation requirements. Mechanical works included local pressure testing, system flushing, and certification. Electrical works included containment for new PDB and ERB units, installation of a free issue Heatherose equipment panel, rewiring of warning lights, and new power supplies for equipment. We removed and reinstated relax and view panels to suit the revised layout and allowed for the removal and reinstatement of fire alarm systems under a provisional sum.
