Fire Safety

The passive fire safety programme currently encompasses more than 550 sites across primary and secondary care settings, forming a significant multi-year compliance initiative aimed at strengthening life safety protection across occupied NHS buildings. CLC was appointed to undertake comprehensive fire compartmentation surveys and deliver the associated remedial works required to bring buildings in line with current legislative and mandatory standards. The programme focuses on improving passive fire protection measures to prevent the spread of fire and smoke, safeguarding patients, staff and visitors.

What we did

Since 2021, CLC has partnered with NHS Property Services (NHSPS) to deliver a critical passive fire safety improvement programme.

Many buildings remain fully occupied, with clinical services operating continuously and patients often in vulnerable situations. Our specialist teams are experienced in working within live clinical and medical environments, including mental health and patient-facing areas. Close liaison with NHS Property Services regional teams and local estates departments ensures that works are carefully planned, sequenced and coordinated to minimise disruption.

Working in Live Healthcare Environments

Delivering fire safety works across more than 550 live healthcare sites presents complex operational challenges.

It is a pleasure to work alongside CLC Contractors on our Fire Compartmentation Project. We appreciate the knowledge and expertise that they provide us on each project and collaboration with them is effortless, making them feel like extended colleagues rather than contractors. The work is completed seamlessly in a live environment, with thorough care and consideration given at all times to building users.
