An Electrical Apprentice’s Growth Journey
Levi is a second to third year Electrical Apprentice at CLC, located in the Southampton Branch.
Questions
1. Can you tell me a bit about yourself and why you decided to do a CLC apprenticeship?
I enjoy being on-site as it allows me to develop new skills. I chose a CLC apprenticeship because it seemed interesting and offered the opportunity to work for a reputable company.
2. How do you feel you’ve grown personally and professionally since starting at CLC?
I have improved on-site and in class due to being able to learn different skills taught by the work lads, and I’m more confident on-site now
3. How do you balance hands-on work with classroom learning?
Classroom learning provides valuable skills and knowledge that I can apply directly to the workplace.
4. Are there any mentors or team members who have had a significant impact on your learning?
I have learnt a lot from all my work colleagues, and I am grateful to all of them.
5. What’s the biggest advantage of being an apprentice?
You get paid while you learn. Gaining hands-on experience while developing a valuable trade sets me up for long-term success.
6. How has earning while learning benefited you personally?
Earning while learning has helped me develop important skills.
7. What skills are you excited to develop further during your apprenticeship?
To be able to take my 2931 Testing (City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing), so that I will be a qualified Electrician.
8. How would you describe the company culture in three words?
Good, reliable and trustworthy.
9. What has been the most unexpected or interesting part of the job?
Learning the maths side in class such as different formulas and then applying that knowledge while working on-site.
10. How would you describe CLC as a company to someone thinking about joining the team?
I would say they’re very reliable.
11. What advice would you give to a new apprentice?
My advice to a new apprentice would be to stay off your phone and show a strong eagerness to learn. The more enthusiastic and engaged you are, the more likely others will be willing to teach you and involve you in tasks, helping you grow faster in your role.
