CLC delivered a comprehensive refurbishment programme to 23 Spires Lane and St Michael’s Mount on Newcastle’s Byker Estate for Karbon Homes, supporting our client’s wider regeneration ambitions.
Works included full strip-out, structural alterations, new steelwork, roofing repairs, glazing, flooring, decoration and extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, fire alarms and security systems. New kitchens, tea points and sun tubes created brighter, more functional community spaces.
Working closely with Historic England, JDDK Architects and Storm Tempest Property Consultancy, CLC balanced heritage conservation requirements with the delivery of modern, fully compliant facilities.

During refurbishment, we identified an unexpected issue with the location of a load-bearing wall. Working collaboratively with Karbon Homes and the design team, we redesigned the steelwork while works were underway. This rapid response maintained programme momentum and minimised disruption to the project.
